League of Legend Season 12 releases January 7th
As the preseason started a bit earlier than we’re used to, Riot looks to be ready to launch patch 12.1 on January 5th, while the official season will begin two days later, on January 7th.
What’s to come?
Riot are looking to reward a broader spectrum of players outside of their ranked system by introducing challenges across all modes. These challenges will have their own tab in the Riot Client divided into tiers depending on your rank.
Challenges come in 5 different categories, which work as a middle ground between your overall progress and individual challenges, letting you track your performance in specific gameplay areas.
The 5 challenge categories are:
- Imagination: Heavy emphasis on getting multiple dragon, herald and monster kills
- Expertise: Heavy emphasis on using smarts and game knowledge to take down opponents is the focus here
- Teamwork & Strategy: Heavy emphasis on completing team tasks and winning team fights
- Veterancy: Heavy emphasis on lifetime stats, like total CS, earned gold, kills, etc.
- Collection: Heavy emphasis on getting champions and skins
Completing certain challenges will award unique titles, tokens, and borders for you to display your feats to both friend and foe. Initially, patch 12.1 will include over 300 challenges, with more to come.
Hard rank reset to make placements more accurate
In previous seasons, players reported experiencing weird placements and inconsistent rank increases. This time around, Riot will be ignoring more of the data from season 11 to have more accurate placements as the season progresses.
